Selling Watkins Products: How, Why and Where?
Watkins has been around for over 150 years, selling top quality household and personal care products to people across North America. Customers love our products and we are always looking for consultants to help deliver these products to our customers!
Selling Watkins to Customers Directly
One of the easiest ways to sell Watkins products is to sell to customers directly. This can be in your local community or outside of it, Watkins consultants are not bound by territory.
Using word of mouth and referrals is one way to get your name out there. You can also advertise on a local bulletin board (with their permission) or, if you join up on my team you can be listed on FindaLocalConsultant.com so customers can find you that way.
Personally, I like to keep some stock on hand for those quick sales. I keep popular products like the soup and gravy bases, cinnamon, pepper, vanilla, a good variety of spices (as I use all of these myself too!) and bug repellant. Often customers call me and need the items quickly and usually I have them in stock so they come on over and just pick them up!
For items I don’t have in stock, if the customer is ok waiting, I do up an order form and place their order with others and my own once or twice a month, calling them once it’s in. It takes approx. 5-7 busines days to get the products in depending on location.
Selling Watkins at Home Parties
Many Watkins consultants still like to do home parties. True, during the Covid pandemic there were certainly less home parties going on, but now we are seeing more and more of them starting up again.
Unlike other organizations with a structured party system, Watkins has a different approach. They do not charge a flat rate per order for S&H or take any percentages of sales. They also do not offer incentives based on volume size of order.
As a consultant, you have a host(ess) hold the party and customers place their order with him/her. It is 100% up to you what you wish to offer as a gift to him/her. Some ideas are a gift basket of products you make up or a discount on their next order or other ‘free’ products. As for S&H, since the order costs $11.95 to ship, you can order everything all at once and then the host(ess) will divide it up and deliver to customers or have them pick up. You can decide on how much to charge for S&H. You get 100% of the profit on the party.
Selling Watkins at Markets and Fairs
This is a great way to get your name out there and make some BIG sales! Selling Watkins at markets and fairs has been around a long time and depending on the venue you can make a great business out of this method.
The type of products you bring may change depending on the venue and what you feel customers want. By bringing catalogues and business cards you can collect orders and fulfill them after the show.
These shows can be very busy and sometimes last a whole weekend or even a week. You will likely increase the price of some products to cover your cost of table rental, insurance, price of POS machien if you go that route, and for your time! Setting up and tearing down for a 3 day event is about 12 hours a day. Figure out a price that works for you and even offer coupons for future orders (never gouge a customer though, be reasonable.) You never want to come away from a show losing money.
Selling Watkins Products Online
We have a few limitations on selling Watkins products online. It is true Watkins will give you a FREE e-site and you can send your customers there to order and have it shipped to your door.
Very helpful for those long-distance customers! So think of family, friends and customers you find from markets or newsletters etc. They can go there and order anytime.
You can also advertise that e-site on social media as long as it’s to family & friends & current customers who ‘opt-in’. Basically, Watkins does not want people spammed and so we don’t just post our links all over every page/group etc and spam it!
All sales MUST go through your E-site if done online. You can not set up your own E-Commerce website with a Buy Now button and fulfill orders that way. You also may not sell items on Amazon, E-bay etc.
If you have ANY questions I am here to help! Feel free to contact me anytime.
