World War II: Watkins gave 90% of it’s production capacity to the war efforts, fullfilling government contracts for products like dried eggs powdered juice packets, vitmains, hospital germicide and insecticide powder.
The very first sales person for the Watkins company. The Watkins Man was the term given to the salesmen who would travel business to business and farm to farm, selling Watkins products.
There are many stories about the Watkins man driving up in his horse and buggy, visiting the farms. Kids would come running from across the fields to see what treats he had for them, Mom would bake a fresh pie and then he would open his briefcase with the available Watkins products.
